Every year, the Activist Lab partners with the BUSPH Students of Color in Public Health to throw a holiday party for the children of the Barkley Housing Development, located near the BUSPH Campus in Boston’s South End. Many of the Barkley residents utilize the many services and programs administered by the Blackstone Community Center. Engaging more than 350 residents; BU staff, faculty and students; as well as community partners such as Whole Foods, Toys for Tots, Boston Policy Department, Foodies Market, Harry’s Pizza, Public Health & Housing Community Committee, Boston Housing Authority, Boston University Brothers United, and more, the Barkley Holiday party is a perfect example of what “community engagement” is at BUSPH.
